***This page is no longer updated – Visit my NEW mods site at mods.girlplaysgame.com!***

The days of ugly Femshep helmet head are over, rejoice!  Here are the hair mods I’ve made for Mass Effect 3, basically just hair ported from the Sims (credit).  Instructions to install included in each .rar file and also at the bottom of this post.

If you use these mods, please consider donating to girlplaysgame.com – I love being able to provide all these mods to you guys for free but I could really use some help maintaining the site. Thanks for your support! :)

glamhair

1.  Glam Hair

Shepard has never looked so great!  IMHO, this was how Shep was always meant to look. :)

2.  Miles Away Hair

Glamourazzi alert!  You better bet if my Femshep is going on a date, she’s gonna get her hair did …

3.  Wavy Hair

Another wavy hairstyle for Shep, because even with the reapers attacking, she still wants to look amazing.

7

4.  Lake Hair

Channeling her inner Veronica Lake with the long hair and the curled ends.  My personal favorite mod :)

mila

5.  Mila Hair

This reminds me of Mila Jovovich’s hair in the Resident Evil movies … sexy!  A more practical (but still cute) for all those combat situations Shep seems to get into …

6. Peggy Braid

Get a messy braid for your Femshep that says “I care but not too much” :P

1

7. Sunset Hair

Shepard is such goddamn perfection in this hair I just can’t.

2

8.  Combat Ponytail

There are some transparencies with this hair in certain scenes for light hair.  If you have a dark-haired Shepard, this mod should be OK.

3

9.  Fishtail Braid

So fresh and so clean.  Looks great with vibrant colors :)

10.  Paragon Scarring

Replace the red renegade scarring with some blue paragon scarring!  I can easily make other colors available as well – let me know!

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Included in .rar:

.tpf file*
.PSK file
.upk file
BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc*

*required

I included the PSK file for anyone who wants to mess with it in 3DS Max, but otherwise, you won’t need it. The .upk file is required if you want to replace a particular hair mesh. The .pcc file is required if you just want an easy, quick install.

Required Programs:
ME3 Explorer
Gibbed Mass Effect Save Editor
Texmod

MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc FILE BEFORE YOU START IN CASE YOU MESS UP.

Easy Instructions (using .pcc):

  1. Paste the BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc into your game’s CookedPCConsole folder (BioGame\CookedPCConsole).
  2. Skip to Step 8 under Manual Instructions!

Manual Instructions (using .udk):

  1. Open ME3 Explorer.
  2. Open Meshplorer (Developer Tools > Mesh > Meshplorer)
  3. Load the PCC (File > Load PCC )
  4. Open the BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc file located in your game’s CookedPCConsole folder (BioGame\CookedPCConsole).
  5. Click on the hair you want to replace – HMF_HIR_PROJessica_MDL. (You can replace other hairs but they can cause crashing issues so unless you’re experienced, just follow my instructions exactly).
  6. Go to Transfer > Import UDK … a new window will open. Go to File > Open UDK package and select the .UPK file.
  7. Click on the file that appears in the left window and then LOD 0 should appear in the right window. Click on LOD 0 and then go to Import LOD. A little popup should say “Done” after. Now you can close Meshplorer.
  8. Go to Tools > Tocbinupdater in ME3 Explorer.
  9. Go to File > Check PCTocbin and select your PCConsoleTOC.bin file located under your game’s BioGame folder.
  10. It should find an update and a popup will ask you if you want to update it – click yes.

OK YOU’RE DONE WITH ME3 EXPLORER!
NOW OPEN UP GIBBED.

Follow these directions to edit your hair in Gibbed using this information:

BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_PROJessica.HMF_HIR_PROJessica_MDL
BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_Short02.HMF_HIR_PROShort_Diff
BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_Short02.HMF_HIR_PROShort_Diff

OK NOW YOU’RE DONE WITH GIBBED!
ONE MORE STEP!

12. Open Texmod and load the .tpf (detailed instructions for complete n00bs here)

RUN THE GAME FROM TEXMOD AND YOUR SHEP SHOULD HAVE GORGEOUS HAIR!

  1. I can’t seem to actually download the mods. It opens the google drive page but i can not download them. I was wondering if there was another way to do get them.

  2. They’re both amazing ! The last one is just perfect for the party in Citadel DLC.
But where i can find the outfit that your shep wears on the first picture ?

Anyway, thank’s for this amazing relooking of Shepard, you made an incredible work ;)

  3. I love absolutely love all your creations! thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing them. I notice you have on the outfit with the tank top, do you have the diff files and udk for them? the one I found changed my pcc file and erased all my prior mods to my game outfits. and the tpf didnt work either. I know you are busy, thank you for your time on this! you are amazing!

  4. Bummer! That’s the one I tried and it wiped all my outfits and still didn’t work for me, major bummer! I appraciate the reply though I have tons of fun with your mods! If I had an option to donate more money instead of ten I would have. It is worth way more. More people should donate!

    • Hmm, did you try doing a manual replacement by extracting the .psk file from the .pcc file using ME3 Explorer and then replacing the one specific target outfit that way? The problem when you copy/paste a .pcc file is that it replaces all the outfits in that category. If you only want to do one, you have to do a manual replacement (see my Advanced Modding tutorial). does that make sense?

  5. Oh! I didn’t know you could do that! Great idea! Thank you! Although I did make skinny jeans with holes and a short shirt which is rathher cute. Let me know if you want a copy! Not as rad as your stuff though! Thank you for the tip!

  6. these are all so pretty! and thanks for the detailed installation instructions =). would you mind sharing where you got that mod for shep’s mass effect 2 leather dress, the one from kasumi’s dlc? (i’ve been looking for it for ages!)

  7. First of all, thank you very much for your work, its awesome ^_*
And i have some requests and i hope you have the time help me, and that you forgive my bad english ;)
I would like it if you could post the facecode you used for the wavy hair pic (its the third).
Then i have a problem to get the aria-alliance dress to work. I followed your steps and when you star texexplorer to scan for all .pcc files i got a warning that some textures of a pcc flie were not found and it breaks. I think you know how odd it is to wait, let me tell, 45 minutes you see the bar and you think “yes its almost done” and then BAM! crash. Then you let it run a second time to realize its really not working. And thats a story of how you could waste nearly two hours of your life ^_*.
So, my question is, is there any other option for me available to get this thin to work?

    Ps:
Im testing some of your Hair mod for fem and menshep and i recognized that for the menshep hair floppy, that there are some hairs missing if you have several angle of views….is that normal??
then i would like to download the leon har mod, but i cant find the file, am i blind???
OH, and i tested the wavy hair mod and it kind of looks like michael jackson…that was creepy ;)

    • Hi Jack! You can check the bottom of my FAQ page for headmorphs of my Shepard’s – you’ll need Gibbed to use them :) I have no idea why you’re getting that error message though – it’s never hapenned to me before! You don’t have to scan for .pcc files though – you can just open the exact one in the folder that you want, you don’t have to load the database. Just do file > load pcc instead of load from database. I hope that solves your problem! Also, yeah, the mshep hairs have no undergone as much testing as the female ones so there might be some issues. With the male ones especially, there seem to be weird transparency issues during some scenes. I took down the leon hair mod to fix it, it will go back up eventually :)

  8. Ok, thanks for the tip about the faq’s (but, it got really hard for me to find them, actually i had to use google to find the right site ^_^ ) . I got it at work and the aerie face with the sunset hair looks just awesome; garrus will love it! ^_*

But the aria-aliance-dress problem ist still accurate. Actually its step 10 that got on my nerves. I cancel the scan you mentioned in your tutorial, but i got no option to load a pcc…
Maybe im too dumb to get this thing to work…
would you mind to give me a step by step adwise about what i have to do starting at step ten? How can i find the “CTHk” folder to replace the necessary files?

  9. This mods are awesome! Thanx a lot!

By the way, some of the hairstyles works perfectly fine without TexMod for my Shep. I’ve tryed Mila’s hair, Fishtale and Sunset, and there were no clipping, texture shifting, crazy colors or other crapy things. For some reasons, poor Diana Allers start looking creepy, but, who cares about her?)))

    • Haha, yeah my directions are to replace Allers hair (because I hate her and also because it’s easy) – you can replace other hairs as well if you don’t want a messed up Allers :) Yeah, I noticed that some of the hairs are OK without the texmod, too – but only for darker colored hairs in my experience … have you tried lighter colored without texmod?

      • I’m fine with that, kinda hate her too))

About colors… I haven’t tryed anything brighter than variations of red, so maybe there is an issue. But, for now I have no intensions to create a blonde-Shep, and it’s cool that TexMod can be avoided. Actually, ME3Explorer deserved my eternal love just because it allows to get rid of the fuss with TM in most cases.

  10. Hi, thanks so much for sharing this <3 Finally I can use better hair for my Shepard. I have followed all of your instructions and did trial and error, but somehow I can't make it right. So myb you can help me here.. 1. I still confused about when the new hair style will take place. So I installed the mod first, then did the new game (with my imported ME2 character) and when I choose my hair, the new hair isn't there. So I guess, maybe the hair will change itself after the game begin? Or should I play for a while first with my old hair (without installing the mod), then use the mod, and resume the game? 2. I wanna use the sunset hair ( it's so amazing) but I wonder, is blonde the default color for the hair and can I change it into dark red? That's all. Again, thanks so much for making and sharing this^^

    • It depends which hairstyle you end up replacing. If you follow my instructions exactly, then no, it won’t be in character creator. Start your new game, then use Gibbed to edit your save file. You can also use Gibbed to change the haircolor, etc.

  11. hey thanks for the help i think i got it down but i have a question for the clothing that uses the same .pcc file i downloaded Helena” Outfit and Mass Effect 3 Mod: Puffy Vest intro replacement mod also uses the said^ above file now can i use them 2 togather like the Helena Outfit replaces the dress and the Puffy Vest replaces the Intro outfit

  12. eh i give up i keep messing up well thanks for all the help ill leave the ME3 modding to the perfonial ppl i cant mod worth a damn

  13. Hello again GPG :)
Let me start by stating that I have successfully modded brooks hair into my game preciously. Now I want to use your combat ponytail one but my game crashes on loading my edited save. I went back through gibbed and made sure all three lines I added were correct no extra spaces. I also use ME3 Explorer to do a tocbin update again and still it crashed. so then i went through and copy/pasted the whole thing again – started from scratch. still nothing… I noticed that the pcc is named BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO_PINNED.pcc and the file you ask us to replace in the tutorial is BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc. So i thought that might be the problem. so then i renamed the modded pcc to BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc and replaced the existing file in my game directory then did another tocbin update and triple checked the lines added into my save game then run it all again through texmod and STILL it crashes.

You will see I’ve had trouble with your armor mods as well. Tis a shame i really love the look of your mods and really want to get them to work so that i can support your lovely efforts :_<

    • I made it work.
If anyone his having problems with this: yes. BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO_PINNED.pcc is meant to be named BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc make sure you correct this before adding it to you cookedpc file if youre using the combat ponytail mod.

That was one of my problems. The other problem was at the time I couldn’t get the code to copy/paste into gibbed properly so I typed it out instead and all three times that i re-edited when i was trying to figure out what was going on, i must have made a typo. Because upon copy/pasting the codes my game is finally working. weeeee!

NOW to get my head around this armor modding thing!

  14. GPG,
I love the combat ponytail, but is it meant to be stuck to my shep’s back? every time she turns her head her hair just stays there and stretches instead :P
    other than that, amazing!

  15. Is there anyway to install these custom hair mods into the first Mass Effect? Mods seem to be scarce anymore for the first game and this is the best I’ve found. There’s no PCConsoleTOC.bin with ME1 so the instructions came to an abrupt halt for me.

      • Thanks!
But I have a problem, my game is always loading…Why is that? My Mass Effect 3 is pirate copy of the original…Is because of that?
        Sorry for my bad english.

      • No, I use a pirated version as well and it works fine. Look at the FAQ for possible reasons for endless loading or game crashing.

  16. Thanks for replying my message,

I got the files at my game but, I’ve another problem :s

I tried using your Sunset hair for my Texmod, but when I load the game, nothing changes.

I ran the application through Origins with a .bat file

    please help?

  17. AWESOME!Thank you for sharing!
If I’m not asking too much, can you tell me how did you manage to get the armor in NO.8 picture?

  18. Hi, I followed your instructions for Mila and the other hairstyles, but all of them have resulted in having really dark hair colour. My current shepard had light blonde (default) but now has this ugly blackish tone. Is there any way to retain the hair colour (or any colour) with the new hair?

    • In some lightings, the light won’t reflect off the hair properly and it will look really dark (ie. in combat) … but if it’s black, you need to change the hair color via gibbed and make sure you run the texmod with it.

  19. I got the combat ponytail to finally work (messed around too much beforehand with mods) but the texture looks really bad. The texture makes he hair look almost like paper, and all blocky around the head. Is there something i missed? It seems whatever i’ve done, i’ve made the same mistake with every single hair mod i’ve tested so far :c

    • No, as I mentioned in the description, there are a lot of issues with that hair texture – it looks ok in darker hairstyles, but I released it as is on request without fixing the issues for lighter hair/lighting. Maybe I’ll try to fix them later. But if the same thing is happening for every hair you try, that shouldn’t happen … are you running the texmod?

      • Yeah i’m running texmod, and running it the way you apparently have to by changing the names then back again. Tried without just for the hell of it as well. I can use other NPC hairs fine on my char, it’s just the custom stuff that seems to not turn out right. Unfortunately it’s still doing this after another week, so i’ve given up and am just using Brooks hair (despite it still having some ugly clipping issue).

Thanks anyway, still love the mods whether i can use them or not xD

    • Did you follor the Texmod instructions 100%? Including the swapping of .exe file names etc? My hair was all blocky around the head as well and then I went back to the Texmod instructions and followed them exactly and voila, natural hair.

  20. hello could you tell me what’s the Revan/Sunset texture/mesh code? I’m trying to edit the appearances at Gibbed but I don’t have the code?

    my main default one is

    biog_hmf_hir_pro.Hair_Classy.HMF_HIR_Cls_MDL

    and hair mesh/diff

    BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_Short02.HMF_HIR_PROShort_Diff
    BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_Short02.HMF_HIR_PROShort_Diff

  21. Hi!! When I follow you tutorial, step 6 (Go to Transfer > Import UDK … a new window will open. Go to File > Open UDK package and select the .UPK file.) me3explorer report a problem -systemoutofmemory, i shared for this problem, and people say apdate NETfraemwork, i did this, but it didnt helps.. Can you help? I tried use just texmod, but my Shep baldheaded now.. I use space dress simple with texmode, and its look beautiful! Why i cant use its with hair? Thank you for this mods! =)

  22. Hey, while I’ve read through most of this thread I believe anyone has asked, and maybe its my noobish self stumbling in ignorance at something I can’t comprehend but….may I ask if it its possible to make this a .mod file instead? Just a thought. I started modding me3 this past week and a mod’s install instructions had me make one(.mod file in me3explorer), out of the mods’ .tpf and associated files(that were required to make the .mod file) which I’d wanted to use. After that, all I had to do was “Load the Job” and “Run all Jobs” and save it(Do I need to or does it load it permanently?). Is this right? Is this the right place to be asking this? I’m not sure I’d tried the install got a little turned around, previous installs of texture and mesh replacement mods had me only using me3explorer, yet yours ask me to use me3explorer, the save editor and the can of worms dubbed texmod(screen looks like a bad game of tic tac toe on steroids when I use the texmod). Anyway, I apologize if this is “post” is in the wrong spot, but thought the matter relevant as it pertains to your wavy hair mod.

    Thanks in adv

    • Yes, it is possible to made a .mod file out of these mods using ME3Explorer. But I honestly don’t have the time right now. When I started making/posting mods, I didn’t really have the intention of making them available to the masses – it was just me goofing around … If you DIY, please share the .mod with me so I can add it to the site :)

  23. I just wanted to say thanks I got it working just fine following your instructions. I also wanted to ask if any of these were possible for use with the Xbox or is that out of the question? (I’m still kind of new to ME modding so I’m not sure what is and isn’t possible yet)

    • No, unfortunately not :( You can edit details of your save game using Gibbed, converting the PC sav to Xbox save file, then uploading to your xbox, but you can’t do any of the super cool hair mods or armor mods you see here :(

    • The way I mod hairs is replacing Allers’ hair because I never use her and her hair is one of the easiest to replace without problems. You can replace any other hair in theory (I suggest the CustomCute style – I’ve done that one before with no problems, too) … just change the Gibbed hairstyle and replace the correct mesh. ELE has some tutorials already on how to do that: http://elemods.blogspot.com/

  24. I love your hair (and all your mods for that matter) but I follow the instructions and my game crashes every. Time. Do I need to edit my hair in gibbed first? I cant figure out the problem.

  25. hey there you got some really awsome mods here just wanted to ask 2 questions what is the mods that give u that white alliance outfit the one with the skirt and the second question is so i have tryed to get your aerieshep to work for hours now i use everything u say in ur toturials tryed both with the facemorph and the code together with the texmod but the results i get looks nothing like the one from ur pictures any clue what i do wrong?

  26. Hey GPG,
I desperately need your help! I really want to try your mods (they look beautiful!), but although I have done every single steps right, i have tried countless times, whenever I play the game with textmod, the game saves will not load. you know the scene with the coffee mug and a computer thingy?? it freezes there. I updated the pcc on me3explorer, put the right codes for Gibbed. i just don’t know what possibly went wrong! I’ve tried reinstalling the game few times too :( it seems like whenever i replace the pcc file and update it, the game won’t load. please pretty please help, i really want to use your mods!
