Instructions:

If videos are easier for you to follow, go here!

Included in zip:

XXXX.tpf*
XXXX.upk (optional for manual install)
BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc*
Resources folder (this is a modder’s resource – you will not need these files if you are doing an install of this mod)

*required

I included the Resources folder for anyone who wants to mess with the mod in 3DS Max, but otherwise, you won’t need it. The .upk file is required if you want to replace a particular hair mesh. The .pcc file is required if you just want an easy, quick install.

Required Programs:
ME3 Explorer  (this mod was created using the latest version of ME3Explorer Versions 0109K)
Gibbed Mass Effect Save Editor
Texmod

FEMSHEP INSTALL:

****MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc FILE BEFORE YOU START IN CASE YOU MESS UP.****

Easy Instructions (using .pcc):

1. Paste the BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc into your game’s CookedPCConsole folder (BioGameCookedPCConsole).

2. Skip to Step 8 under Manual Instructions!

Manual Instructions (using .upk):

1. Open ME3 Explorer.

2. Open Meshplorer (Developer Tools > Mesh > Meshplorer)

3. Load the PCC (File > Load PCC )

4. Open the BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc file located in your game’s CookedPCConsole folder (BioGameCookedPCConsole).

5. Click on the hair you want to replace – HMF_HIR_PROJessica_MDL. (You can replace other hairs too, but if you’re a noob, just follow my instructions exactly).

6. Go to Transfer > Import UDK … a new window will open. Go to File > Open UDK package and select the .UPK file.

7. Click on the file that appears in the left window and then LOD 0 should appear in the right window. Click on LOD 0 and then go to Import LOD. A little popup should say “Done” after. Now you can close Meshplorer.

***

8. Go to Tools > Tocbinupdater in ME3 Explorer.

9. Go to File > Check PCTocbin and select your PCConsoleTOC.bin file located under your game’s BioGame folder.

10. It should find an update and a popup will ask you if you want to update it – click yes.

OK YOU’RE DONE WITH ME3 EXPLORER!
NOW OPEN UP GIBBED.

11. Follow these directions to edit your hair in Gibbed!

Using this information:

Hair Mesh: BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_PROJessica.HMF_HIR_PROJessica_MDL
Hair_Diff: BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_Short02.HMF_HIR_PROShort_Diff
Hair_Mask: BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_Short02.HMF_HIR_PROShort_Diff

Note: Some hairstyles will look fine in most cutscenes but there can be weird transparency issues during combat. This has to do with the Hair_Diff and Hair_Mask. You can play around with the Hair_Diff and Hair_Mask in Gibbed to try and find a better solution than the one I gave above – the transparency issues have nothing to do with the mod texture or mesh itself, so good luck :)

OK NOW YOU’RE DONE WITH GIBBED!
ONE MORE STEP!

12. Open Texmod and load the .tpf (detailed instructions for complete noobs here)

RUN THE GAME FROM TEXMOD AND YOUR SHEP SHOULD HAVE GORGEOUS HAIR!

If you use this mod, please consider donating to girlplaysgame.com – I will always provide mods to everyone for free but I could really use some help maintaining the site servers. Thanks for your support! :)

  1. Hi! I used your mods a few years ago, and everything worked swell (amazing work btw). For some reason I’m trying to use the Winter hair mod on my Femshep as I replay the series, but this time around I can’t get the texture to load properly. I’ve tried a few of your hairmods and none of them have looked right. I’ve tried using both Texmod and Texplorer, and neither has worked. I’ve double checked the instructions and even gone step by step through the video tutorial, and on top of that once upon a time i did get them to work, so I’m stumped.
I was wondering if it is because I’m using other mods, mainly the Buff Femshep mod? (http://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect3/mods/187/?).
I don’t personally see why that’d act up with the hairs since they work around different areas, but it’s the only thing that’s different from when I used your mods last time.

  2. I was wondering exactly how you’re able to keep multiple mods. Or like, different hairstyle units ( sorry, wigspeak: Sounds better than ‘hairpiece’ ) for a different character, or is it just possible to replace the hair one at a time?

  3. Guys ther’s the error:
    Hair Mesh: BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_PROJessica.HMF_HIR_PROJessica_MDL
    Hair_Diff: BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_Short02.HMF_HIR_PROShort_Diff
    Hair_Mask: BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_Short02.HMF_HIR_PROShort_Diff

as you can see in hair_diff and mask is missing somethin, put 02 next to PROShort

    example:
    before:
    BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_Short02.HMF_HIR_PROShort_Diff
    after:
    BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_Short02.HMF_HIR_PROShort02_Diff

    see the difference?? :)

      • Same here. I’ve been searching for a fix for the black neck error for a couple of hours now, but no luck. I’ve seen a few threads about a green neck error, but no one seems to know how to fix it, either.

      • Guys, if any of you will find a solution to the black neck problem, please tell how you did that!

  4. Being fully new to the ME series, is this a ME3 mod only? I’ve seen some mods that said “ME3, but then the directions walked through how to mod for ME1. I guess since ME is older than the DA series, the modding is also different. I mean,Bioware Social has ME1 mods in the DAO section, and all the NexusMods stuff I come across are manual downloads.

  5. Hi sry I am a complete noob and cant get it done with the textmod you write that I can click somewhere for complete noobs but that doesn’t work there is no link to it

  6. I’m also having the infinite loading screen problem, and I’m at my wit’s end. I’ve tried everything I could think of, including different mods, but I can’t seem to get it to work. I really love your mods and want to try them out so idk what to do!

  7. Hi! I’ve tried your mod this morning and I was wondering if you could gimme a hand. I’m trying to use the look called “toyger” for my FemShepard. The first time I enter in my presaved game, no problem, everything works perfectly.
But if I quit the game and reload, my Shepard’s hair looks very strange, like a gigantic black ananas XD. Any suggestions?
Thank you very much in advance for your help and for your wonderful work!

  8. Hi, the hair works fine and I really love it but the problem is, my femshep’s neck turned black :\
I really dont know how to fix it :\

  9. Hello I wanted to ask is there a way to permanently install the hair so that I can play ME3 without having to use texmod, I’m not a fan of it myself and prefer to just replace textures once and not have to worry about it again. Regardless thankyou for these mods and I would never have known about those alternate ending mods without your site. :)

    • Yes, actually Elysiumfic is helping me turn all my mods into DLC content so you never have to worry about replacing and texmod and stuff again!!! :D It’s almost done!

  10. When ever i try to launch from texmod i get this error appdata\local\temp\wtfxxxx.tmp is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. (the xxxx changes every time i try to run it again) Plz Help!!!!!

  11. Oh, I thought this was for Mass Effect 1. Does the hair model work with Mass Effect 1, or do I have to start over completely and find a different hair mod?

  12. I tried to use one of this mods, but i got stucked in one of the problems of the loading screen, i decided to start a new gamethrough because i got frustrated,i got one of the default hairs of mass effect but, guess what, the same loading screen problem, do i have to delete something or this is normal, or part of the game idk help pls

  13. Got the mods to work, but every time with every hair tried, the game crashes after the tutorial mission.
Nothing changes regardless on which hair, it always crashes to desktop after you get the cutscene on the normandy.
