Combat Ponytail

There are some transparencies with this hair in certain scenes for light hair.  If you have a dark-haired Shepard, this mod should be OK.

Download here!

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Included in .rar:

.tpf file*
.PSK file
.upk file
BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc*

*required

I included the PSK file for anyone who wants to mess with it in 3DS Max, but otherwise, you won’t need it. The .upk file is required if you want to replace a particular hair mesh. The .pcc file is required if you just want an easy, quick install.

Required Programs:
ME3 Explorer
Gibbed Mass Effect Save Editor
Texmod

MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc FILE BEFORE YOU START IN CASE YOU MESS UP.

Easy Instructions (using .pcc):

  1. Paste the BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc into your game’s CookedPCConsole folder (BioGameCookedPCConsole).
  2. Skip to Step 8 under Manual Instructions!

Manual Instructions (using .udk):

  1. Open ME3 Explorer.
  2. Open Meshplorer (Developer Tools > Mesh > Meshplorer)
  3. Load the PCC (File > Load PCC )
  4. Open the BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.pcc file located in your game’s CookedPCConsole folder (BioGameCookedPCConsole).
  5. Click on the hair you want to replace – HMF_HIR_PROJessica_MDL. (You can replace other hairs but they can cause crashing issues so unless you’re experienced, just follow my instructions exactly).
  6. Go to Transfer > Import UDK … a new window will open. Go to File > Open UDK package and select the .UPK file.
  7. Click on the file that appears in the left window and then LOD 0 should appear in the right window. Click on LOD 0 and then go to Import LOD. A little popup should say “Done” after. Now you can close Meshplorer.
  8. Go to Tools > Tocbinupdater in ME3 Explorer.
  9. Go to File > Check PCTocbin and select your PCConsoleTOC.bin file located under your game’s BioGame folder.
  10. It should find an update and a popup will ask you if you want to update it – click yes.

OK YOU’RE DONE WITH ME3 EXPLORER!
NOW OPEN UP GIBBED.

Follow these directions to edit your hair in Gibbed using this information:

BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_PROJessica.HMF_HIR_PROJessica_MDL
BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_Short02.HMF_HIR_PROShort_Diff
BIOG_HMF_HIR_PRO.Hair_Short02.HMF_HIR_PROShort_Diff

OK NOW YOU’RE DONE WITH GIBBED!
ONE MORE STEP!

12. Open Texmod and load the .tpf (detailed instructions for complete n00bs here)

RUN THE GAME FROM TEXMOD AND YOUR SHEP SHOULD HAVE GORGEOUS HAIR!

  1. Hello, I followed all the instructions correctly (ME3 Explorer/Gibbed/TexMod) but the hair looks weird on my Shepard (well.. actually I took for a test nameislooney’s Shepard)
here’s a pic: http://hpics.li/d785f46 (sorry for the quality I have some problems when taking screens)
Do you know why I get this result? It would be great if you do :)

    • same problem here. are you using the latest SVN of me3 explorer? I was. I am now switching to rev 622 as i believe any mods created before svn 622 will not work properly with svn 623 and above.
I had this hairstyle on a previous shep and it was perfect. that was back when there were older SVNs so i think this is the problem. will let you know if i find the solution

  2. Yeah I think I used the latest svn. Can you tell where you find the rev 622 (I’m such a noob with those things ahah). And thanks for your response – I’m glad I’m not alone with this problem.

  3. I have exactly the same problem… I used an older version of ME3 Explorer, but it still didn’t work. Guess I’m giving up… :(

    • Yeah, I have this problem with all the hairs I want to install (well except with brooks/ashley/miranda/jack ones)
where did you find the older version, I don’t even know how to change it x_x
      I think I’m giving up too :/

      • Weeeeeell I’ve also given up because I use other mods that require the latest SVN because they are new or up to date. What technically needs to happen here is GPG should update all her hair mods to make it work with the new revisions. Unfortunately tho she is time poor at the moment D: I get that – I’m in the same boat. So you could downgrade if you like but I think I will wait until GPG gets back into the game and play 7 days to die for a while instead!
Older revisions can be found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/me3explorer/files/Versions/
But I don’t know which version is which SVN. maybe try a google search before messing with it.

The fact is, SVN 623 is the latest, most stable and will have the most support from modders. So I’m gonna wait :D

      • I can upload my old ME3 Explorer version so you guys can use my mods – I don’t think I’m going have time to update all my mods, but I’ll try to create any new mods in the latest build going forward.

    • The Free.pcc version is without the hair mesh being weighted down – that means the ponytail is static and clips. The pinned.pcc version is with the hair weighted down which means it deforms with Shepard’s movements. Everyone has their own preference (mine if is for the pinned version) so I just put both versions up. :)

      • By the way thankyou SO much for this mesh, looks Lara Croft soon as i saw it, that one. I grew up with her games ^_^

By deforms do you mean something similar to when skirts act like pants when you move? I’ve seen that in a game, seriously regretted their implementation of skirts at all, it didn’t split during locomotion, it stretched the texture to keep the two “halves” joined thereby keeping the skirt looking all skirt like. It looked ridiculous the whole time.
Back on topic, this wouldn’t require file name changing would it?

      • Yeah, exactly like how skirts act like pants when you move :( Sadly, my modding skills are not advanced enough to give hair new physics. :( I’m not sure what file name changing you mean?

  4. Hello! I’m new at using mods and I was wondering if the your mods for the hair and clothes work in ME1 and 2 or they are only for ME3? Thank you and sorry if this is a dumb question!

  5. So I get all the way to step 10 (triple checked compliance) and there isn’t any update… I used the easy way (past it directly in). Any insight? Thanks!

  6. I did everything as is instructed but no sucess. Jessica’s hair still remained. Or something like hair..No Ponytail..Shame because it is beautiful hair….maybe I’m not doing something correctly..I suspect that this is a texmod trouble.I could not launch the game with texmode..Or mabye i dont speak so good english XD. Anyway nicemodes, thank you!
