Mass Effect: Advanced Modding Made Easy

Some of you have been trying to use my awesome mods for Femshep and don’t know how … well, it took me a while to fumble my way through it as well with the scattered tutorials I’ve found on the internet, but none of them really dumbed down the process for texture and mesh replacing enough.  So here I am sharing my limited findings so you can make your Shep as badass as mine :)

You will generally encounter three types of mods (and the programs you need to use them):

1.  .tpf (Texmod)

2.  .upk/.dds (ME3 Explorer)

3.  .mod (ME3 Explorer)

Texmods are really easy.  You just download the Texmod program and run the .tpf through it – very simple and there are some good tutorials out there so I won’t really go into it (check here and here for instructions on how to use .tpf and create your own using Texmod).

I’m going to focus on how to use .upk and .dds files to replace meshes and textures in the game because it’s a little more advanced and there aren’t a lot of tutorials out there on how to do it.

First, you’ll need ME3 Explorer.

Got it?

Then you’ll need the to download the modding files that you want to use.  If you download one of mine, you’ll see that each folder comes with a .upk file and at least three .dds files with “diff,” “norm,” and “spec” in their names.

Step 1.  Open up ME3 Explorer and navigate to Meshporer:

2013-10-20 11_19_41-ME3 Explorer by Warranty Voider

2.  Open up Meshplorer.  It should look something like this:

2013-10-20 11_19_51-ME3 Explorer by Warranty Voider - [Meshplorer]

3.  Load the PCC if you know what file you’re looking for in the CookedPCConsole folder or select Load from Database to populate a list.  If you’re replacing one of Femshep’s textures, you will be looking for BIOG_HMF_ARM_CTH_R.pcc (casual clothing) or BIOG_HMF_ARM_SHP_R.pcc (armor).  Let’s select the former so we can replace Shepard’s black dress with something else.

2013-10-20 11_20_15-Open

4.  When you load the pcc, you should see a screen similar to this (except the mesh model on the right should look like Shepard’s black dress – sorry, I took this screencap after I’d already replaced it!):

2013-10-20 11_20_23-ME3 Explorer by Warranty Voider - [Meshplorer] 5.  Select the last choice in the left hand column (as seen in the screenshot) ending in CTHk to replace Shepard’s black dress.  Once that is selected, go to Transfer > Import from UDK.

2013-10-20 11_20_28-ME3 Explorer by Warranty Voider - [Meshplorer]

6.  Go to File > Open UDK Package and navigate to where you saved the mod you want to upload.  Select the .upk file.

2013-10-20 11_20_35-ME3 Explorer by Warranty Voider - [UDKCopy]

7.  You should then see a screen like the one below.  Select the item on the left column and you should see LOD 0 appear in the right column – select it.  Go to “Import LOD” at the top of the screen and click it.

2013-10-20 11_20_53-ME3 Explorer by Warranty Voider - [UDKCopy]

8.  You should get a “Done” popup.  Close the window (not the big red X in the upper right hand corner but the little x below it) and you should see the mesh screen again.  Select a different mesh and then go back to the CTHk mesh – you should see that it has changed into the armor you uploaded.

2013-10-20 11_21_01-ME3 Explorer by Warranty Voider - [Meshplorer]

9.  Ok, you can close out that window now.  You should be back on the home screen.  Time to upload the textures by going to Developer Tools > Texplorer.

2013-10-20 11_21_11-ME3 Explorer by Warranty Voider

10.  The database will need to populate and this takes a few minutes, but luckily it only needs to be done once.  Once it is finished, you should get a bunch of folders in the left hand column.  Navigate to the folder that says “CTHk” to replace the black dress texture.  When you click on the folder, a bunch of images should appear on the right.  You’ll see the HMF (female) and HMM (male) textures – if you’re modding Femshep, you only need to change the files that start with HMF.  Right click the image > Easy > Add Biggest Image.  Find the folder that your mod is in – replace the Diff, Norm, and Spec files accordingly.

2013-10-20 11_21_39-ME3 Explorer by Warranty Voider - [Texplorer V1.3]

[optional] Some notes about this – when editing and uploading your own mods, Diff files need to be in DX 1 format when you’re saving as a .dds.  Norm files must be in V8U8 and Spec must be in DX5.  Also, the spec map is different for each armor/clothing – the easiest to replace is Shepard’s black dress (the one we’re doing in this tutorial).  Most other armor/clothing will give you a weird orange glow to your textures that you must correct for in your Spec.dds file.  Another armor that is easy to replace is the Defender Armor (FDBa texture).

11.  Ok, so you’ve replaced the diff, norm, and spec files.  Go to File > Save Changes.  You should get a little notification when it is finished.

2013-10-20 11_22_05-ME3 Explorer by Warranty Voider - [Texplorer V1.3]12.  Close out the window and you’ll be back at the main screen.  This step may or may not be necessary – I usually do it if I’ve replaced the mesh, but not if I’ve only replaced textures.  But yeah, maybe do it just in case :)  Go to Tools > TOCBinUpdater.

2013-10-20 11_22_14-ME3 Explorer by Warranty Voider

13.  You should see a screen like the one below.  Go to File > CheckPCConsoleToc.bin.

2013-10-20 11_22_24-ME3 Explorer by Warranty Voider - [TOC.bin Updater]

14.  The PCConsoleTOC.bin file is in your Mass Effect 3 folder > BIOgame folder.  Select it – the program will check if there are any changes automatically.  If you get a popup that says there were changes found, click “yes” to update.  If it doesn’t find any changes, just exit the program.  You’re done!

2013-10-20 11_22_39-Open

Ok, so those are all the steps you need to install most of my mods.  Now, when you go into the game, you should see the new outfit replacing the old one!

  1. Awesome post as always! XD I have not read trough all the previous posts but I have seen mostly armor mods here, is there a post about the face and hair mesh you are using on your femshep around somewhere? Thanks! XD

    • No, not yet, but I can upload the face code and texture for you (just send me an Ask on Tumblr girlplaysgame.tumblr.com … it’s where most of my modding junk goes and I’m much more likely to remember haha). The hair mesh is from nerdykani – she is awesome! http://nerdykani.blogspot.com/

      • You don’t say that this is a standard character editor created face… :D I have spent 20+ hours with it in ME2 times (and if you can remember you had to restart the whole thing and see yourself hit by the reapers, saving joker’s ass, die and get recreated for the 59th time again and again if you wanted to get your nose replaced or the chin’s size reduced by 2 mms XD) because my FemShep looked always different in the character editor compared to the game. Girl, was it frustrating? XD Nevertheless yours really does not look like coming from the CE… Maybe because of the hair… :D Sending you the Ask anyways! Thanks! XD
One more thing: the fact that you got bored of Mass Effect Multiplayer got the best of you. You are playing less and creating more content and girl, you are creative as hell and have an excellent taste… XD You should spend more time with creating content than with consuming other’s… You are very talented. ;)

      • OMG I had that same experience with just not being able to tell how Shep’s face looked until after the intro cutscene! Thank you for the compliments – I posted my Shepard’s face code, face texture, and hair mod here if you’re still interested. I still play the occasional ME3 but since I have every weapon maxed out, it’s more like a way to unwind for me. Some people do yoga … I play MP. :)

    • I hope you made backup copies of the meshes before you installed new meshes … you can just upload the original mesh again. If you didn’t make backups, let me know which one and I will make a backup of mine for you.

  2. @Girl: Thanks ma’am! Will try it on my FemShep ASAP! XD Unlocked all the weapons??? Girl, am I envious? XD Following your test results and directions I have saved 3M credits during the weekend. That is around 20-25 platinum matches, about 15 hours of net game time. I’ve recycled every class and brought 30 RPs and got only three (loooong, saaaaad face) UR weapons in total from it. Let’s just say I was more than disappointed. I have 153 UR points to unlock and following this tactic (which is still the best available to date) it would take about 50 more iterations (and thus about 750 more hours) which I am not dedicated enough to put into ME3 MP to. So I’ve decided to test your mods instead in the campaign in a new playtrough where I will try to be a renegade (just to chicken out at the first meaningful renegade act XD) and would complain for face codes and shit here on a daily basis… :P Thanks again and have a nice day, Girl! ;)

  3. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
I replaced that stupid dress with the leather jacket mod, and it works perfectly. Niiiice!

  4. I tried to install one of the mods ( https://girlplaysgame.com/mass-effect/mass-effect-how-to-mod-to-your-hearts-content/2-6/ ), but the textures did not change, so my Shep is wearing something… strange now :D I tried to install this mod twice and I’ve replaced two different casual clothings. The meshes are different after installing, but the textures are still the same. It would be quite easier to install, if I had a .tpf file, but maybe I’ve done something wrong during the installing?

    • Be careful if you’re replacing textures – for example, if you’re installing it to replace the black dress, the folder you’ll want to upload to is “CTHk” … there is also another “CTHk” folder under the BIOG_HMF_somethingorother folder … you DON’T want that one. You want the root folder CTHk which is down the list further when scrolling. Hope that makes sense. Otherwise, I don’t know what else you would have done wrong …

  5. Thank you for posting this guide… I had used ME3Explorer only a little bit before, but this helped me solve an issue with “forcing” a particular outfit during all opening scenes. It took me a some trial and error and digging around, but I *finally* managed to accomplish what I wanted… phew!!

  6. Great tutorial, incredibly helpful! I’ve succesfully replaced that hideous dress :) Though I can’t figure out how to replace an armor :S which armor is which? I can’t tell from the turning meshes on the right, and I can definitely not tell which texture goes with them in the Texplorer part… could you perhaps explain, if it’s not too much trouble? Thank you in advance :)

    • I have the same problem… I tried to replace an armor, but I couldn’t figure out which of it is which… So I followed the instructions and just took the last one (SHPi) and I finished without a problem. Only thing is when I load my game my femshep is still wearing the same armor as before… I tried to figure it out for hours, but nope… no chance… Where did I go wrong? :-)

  7. Does this work for Hair mods too? I got around up til the 7th step and instead of a “Done” popping up, I got a “Your imported mesh has a different count of bones! This would crash your game, stopping now.” and I have no idea what to do.

    • Yes, this works for hair mods the same way. You need to make sure the number of bones is the same in the mesh as the one you’re trying to replace. Using any of my femshep hair mods and replacing the suggested hair (Jessica) won’t cause a bone issue. If you’re trying to replace another hair style that I did not recommend, you will have to check that the bones are the same – if they aren’t, you’ll have to use 3DS Max to manually change the number of bones.

      • I see. Thank you so much for getting back to me, it certainly did help me and I’ve managed to get the hair mesh to work! Thank you again :)

  8. I have a problem. I was going to edit Shepard’s casual wear to Ashley’s casual wear but during Texplorer my computer shut down and I had to start over. Whenever I try to find the BIOG_HMF_ARM_CTH_R.pcc in Meshplorer it now has a lock as an icon instead and whenever I choose it I get a notice saying that it doesn’t work and I can’t continue. I tried placing my backup file in the folder but I get the same result…

  9. I also have a problem, If you have time to answer. I am trying to replace an armor, it shows up as the Collector armor in the Meshplorer, and the name is : HMF_ARM_FBD_NH_MDL; but when I’m looking for the texture in Texplorer, there is nothing with this name… Under the BIOG_HMF_ARM_SHP_R there is only one folder called SHPa. I don’t understand what I did wrong. I hope I didn’t wreck my game, because I managed to replace the mesh, be I can’t find the texture. I don’t know if it’s important, but I wanted to change it to the Aria armor.

    • Hmm, now my game freezes completely when I try to enter Shep’s locker. Could it be because I couldn’t replace the texture, just the mesh?

      • No, your game won’t freeze if you don’t replace a texture – if you replaced the mesh correctly, the old texture will just show up on the new mesh. It crashes usually when 1) you didn’t run tocbinupdater or 2) you have a wrong code in Gibbed (usually, if you accidentally put an extra space somewhere, like in the hair mesh). I’ve never tried replacing the Collector armor before – I would recommend just replacing the Defender armor to be safe. Some armors don’t like being replaced :)

      • Thank you Girplaysgame! I actually succeeded this time! :) My defender armor is already replaced by another mod, so I tried with a few different ones, that I found the textures to in the Texplorer! If it’s not too much trouble, could you share or link to a guide how to remove the orange glow from the replaced armor? I saw that you wrote you have to somehow correct in the Spec.dds but Google wouldn’t tell me how :) Thanks again!

  10. Sorry, it’s me again. I decided to just replace the Defender armor with Aria’s, as suggested by you. But unfortunately I still have that orange glow. Could you please share some input on how to fix this issue if you can? :) Or link to a guide or someone who managed to do it. Thank you again for the help so far!

  11. Hey, I’m probably making a seriously noob mistake, but I tried replacing the Citadel entrance outfit for Kaidan with your Alliance Dress White mod and I haven’t gotten it to work yet. I followed all the instructions on the readme, but first I ended up corrupting my DLC pack, then after I fixed that, it just didn’t work. I do get the “package is currently in use” error when I try to do the check step with ME3 explorer though, so idk. If you could shed some light on this matter, I’d be really grateful. Thanks :)

    • I’ve never gotten that message before … can you walk me through step by step what you did? Otherwise, I have no idea how to help!

  12. Your work is amazing! But I have a question. When I try to load diff, norm, spec picture for miranda’s outift an error shows up (sth about custtextures) then it says that texture was added to the cache. And after loading a game, my sherpard is wearing a black (completely, like a black hole) outfit in a shape of mirada’s outfit ;) What’s wrong? Please help!

  13. “will give you a weird orange glow to your textures that you must correct for in your Spec.dds file” – How can I do this? Please tell me :)

  14. Hello! Really loving all of your gorgeous armor mods, and I can’t wait to try a bunch of them out :) Just a quick question, when I’m putting in all those texture files in the Texplorer, your tutorial says to use CTHk for replacing the black dress. If I’d like to replace the textures of shepard’s combat armor, since I’d like to have her be wearing your new EDI armor, which folder should I be selecting instead?

    • Thanks! I personally replace FBDa (Defender Armor) when I want to wear a mod as armor. The armors each have their own weird glow and I’ve learned to work around the FBDa one … no idea what to do with the other armors :) You can replace other armors of course, but they will glow weird blue or orange unless you fix the spec texture.

    • The American girl armor isn’t applying at all but the was applyed when I exited ME3 Explorer when it said it updated the file I used. So the armor mod only applys to the defender armor?

      • Most of my armor mods are for manual replacement, meaning they apply to whatever armor you want to replace in ME3 explorer. You have to make sure you replace the textures and the mesh. I really don’t know how to be more clear with directions than what is already posted on my site :(

  15. If you cant get it to work on any armors just do everything in the tutorial above and then DL a coalesced (I used chemieali’s) that has all of the casual clothes pieces on the default
armor’s sliders (Chest, Shoulders, Arms, Legs). Then just play around with them till you find them till you find the right casual clothes and ur set. (For me it was Torso: 21 Shoulders: 8 Arms: 8 Legs:8) http://social.bioware.com/project/8048/

  16. It’s really frustrating to sit here after hours of trying tod switch armor’s T.T At first the texture was pure black and now it’s glowing orange T.T I read the other comments and I did step by step with the help of your tutorial T.T I tried to change the Defender Armor to Aria’s… no error’s… everything was fine… but not in-game…… google isn’t a good spot to find a solution for killing the orange glow… and why is the defender helmet still there O.o skyrim is so easy to mod T.T 10 hours of trying…. i took your upk file and the dds files from this mod (http://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect3/mods/80/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fmasseffect3%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D80%26preview%3D&pUp=1)… i don’t know what i expected when i wrote this :D i’m really frustrated :D

  17. For those of you wondering which textures and which meshes to replace for armors (if youre like me) this may help.
In step 3: look for the BIOG_HMF_ARM_SHP_R.pcc
    In step 5: select HMF_ARM_FBDa_MDL
In step 10: find the folder FBDa
You shouldnt have anymore problems after that.

  18. I’m not sure what I did wrong. I followed the instructions, but now all the armor and casual outfits I replaced are just weird meshes of both armors. I’m not sure what I did wrong. I haven’t seen anything with an orange glow, can you help me please? https://imageshack.com/i/0zgn2jp Here’s a link to see what happened. I also included what I downloaded from here, if it helps any.

      • If it’s possible could I get the .udk for HMF_ARM_CTHa_MDL? I think i didn’t realize what I was doing till too late, now every female on the Normandy has a weird mesh of Ashley’s tunic and the normal clothing.

      • When I get back from vacation in 2 weeks, I can upload it for you … if you can’t wait, you can extract it yourself from one of the DLC files (probably Citadel DLC) :)

    • Then there is something wrong with the textures youre using. Make sure youre putting the textures in the right place (FBDa folder, replace the NORM SPEC and DIFF images with the ones provided in the mod)

If you havent already tried it, try replacing your BIOG_HMF_ARM_SHP_R.pcc with the one you backed up before you installed any mods and start the tutorial again. Also I recommend using the Mother of all Mods located here http://www.moddb.com/mods/mother-of-all-mods as it will fully unlock every armor in the game, including the defender armor. that way, you can wear your awesome mods from the start of the game and install any extra ones without hassel. I used it to replace the jumper casual set with a re-textured version of miranda’s using someone else’s texture and GPG’s mesh :D
(GPG i would like to share my slight retextures if thats ok with you?)

  19. Love all the pictures, just wish I could get it work on mine. When I try to load the Miranda clothes textures a window pops up saying that texture01 is not in my TOC bin. After I click that window closed it allows me to save as normal but my outfits are all black holes. What am I doing wrong? Please help.

    • The Message Actually says TOC.bin error
      Couln’t find entry D:/Program Files (x86)/Origin Games/Mass Effect 3/BIOGame/CookedPCConsole/CustTextures0.tfc in PCConsoleTOC.bin

  20. Hi, your mods are amazing and working well for the most part so thank you first of all! I have a question however, what specifically do you have to do to the spec.dds file to get rid of the orange glow when replacing armors? I was replacing the defender armor and everything worked out well except for the glow when it was loaded up.

    • So, I dunno if I do it right, but it seems to work: Go to photoshop, create a new layer on top of your diff layer, paint it bright orange/red (try #ff3c00) then make that layer either Multiply or Darken. Now your texture should look orange with dark green parts (Darken) or just orange (Multiply) … merge all layers. Go to Channels and makes sure your alpha channel is Black. Now save it as a spec file!

  21. Hello! I was wondering if you knew how to swap the mesh/texture of the N7 helmet to a breather mask (like what Liara wears). I was able to find a modder resource on elemods’ blog, which gives texture and mesh files for Liara’s breather.

    http://elemods.blogspot.ca/2013/07/modder-resource-upk-files-for.html

It comes with the mesh (which is easy to import), 2 norm files, and 1 diff. Thing is, I’m having issues figuring out how to actually add the textures. I’m pretty clueless at the moment, but If you could look it over in your spare time and maybe help me out, I’d be extremely grateful!
Hope you have a wonderful holiday!

  22. Thank you! Going to try that soon, and i’m going to be posing screenshots of my Femshep with your mods. BTW the nightingale armor looks badass on vanguards. My friend and I both agree ash’s tunic in black works so well for my infiltrator, it makes her look like a spy. I have it as a casual appearance replacing the dress and it works perfectly but the trouble only came when I tried to replace the Defender armor with it too. Hopefully that get’s fixed soon though :). Thank you and keep up the great work!

  23. Sooo… I figured out a far far easier way to do what I had been trying to do with ash’s tunic. Instead of replacing the defender armor with it and going through all that orange glow hassle I’ve been dealing with, I just went into the coal. and put the mesh for the dress into the torso section. Since I replaced the dress with the black tunic. I just put armor bonuses on it that would suit an infiltrator and called it a day. Much less work lol. I was about to go all out and make a normal map from scratch and redo the spec map too in Photoshop. So glad I didn’t! As far as modding goes, dealing with the challenges of mass effect has been a great (also annoying at times) learning experience. Thanks for your help! pics coming soon!

  24. I’m just curious if anyone knows. I looked up Defender Armor online and it says that it was available as a preorder item. Since I recently purchased ME3 has anything changed. Is the defender Armor available otherwise? I only ask because I want to change it to one of your armor mods.

  25. Hi, I wanted to use your ‘EDI armour for Femshep’ mod and followed your tutorial step-by-step but I can’t get this to work at all. I can change the mesh without a problem, however when I load the database for Texplorer I eventually get an error message. What’s strange is that it goes through the whole process without a problem, but a window pops up at the end saying something like this: “Exception of type System.OutOfMemoryException was thrown.” And none of that folder structure appears.

Also, I would have thought that if I load a saved game where my Femshep is wearing the dress clothing that it would simply pop up with the new mesh and old textures – yet instead it just loads forever and doesn’t even let me quit the game. My Maleshep save works fine. Moreover, as soon as I replace the updated mesh with the original one that I had backed up, my Femshep save works again like normal. I would appreciate your help with this. :(

    • I’m not sure how to fix the Texplorer issue not loading your texture folder as it’s never happened to me … but do you have enough free memory on your disk for the textures to populate? That’s the only thing I can think of. You have to run tocbinupdater (as per the instructions) after you change a mesh or else your game will crash. Please check the FAQ for other reasons your game might freeze/crash.

      • Thanks for your reply. I have 193 gigs of free memory left on this partition – that should be more than enough, right? Thanks for letting me know why the crashes happen though, I didn’t get to that part in the instructions since I got stuck at the Texplorer part and this explains that issue. Also, one more question: does modding like this risk a ban in multiplayer, or is it ok? It should be ok since it’s just changing meshes and textures but I’d rather ask just in case.

    • I seem to be having the same problem as you are, it keeps loading everything (About 3000 files) and once it’s done it throws the out of memory exception. However my problem slightly differs from yours, my armor does load with the textures are completely messed up, since I couldn’t replace them in Texplorer.

      • Yeah, that’s the same error as I’m getting (I just didn’t get to the tocbinupdater part). I hope someone with the know-how figures out what the problem is.

  26. I’ve had the “never ending loading” screen before.

It happened to me when I edited something in and kinda maybe “glitched?” the files.

and as for using Texplorer, you can try deleting the
“me3 tree bin” file inside your folder and rescan your files.

This method worked for me on V105 of ME3 explorer however, not v106

  27. Hi. I recently tried to mod a few more things for my newly created femshep, but I my Meshplorer doesn’t give me a choice to “Import from UDK”, just PSK. Could anyone please help? Thanks!

  28. Hi. First off, thanks for the amazing mods. I’m on step 10, trying to mod Femshep’s black dress, but there are only three items in the CTHk folder: HMM_ARM_CTHk_SPEC, SHP_Hoddie_diff and SHP_Hoddie_nm. I don’t an HMF item. Can you help? Thanks!

      • Yes, I was in the root file, but the HMF files weren’t there for some reason. I’ve been Googling to see if anyone else has had this problem, but haven’t found anything.

  29. Hello, I just want the cloak for my dragon age armor. But this is the BIOG_HMF_ARM_SHP_R.FBDh.HMF_ARM_FBDh_NH_MDL so far so good, I can see it on the meshplorer…but when I run the texplorer…there are only FBDa-f…I cannot seem to find FBDh…what did I do wrong?? thanx

    • ok, now I wanted to download the nightinggale Armor again…and I cannot seem to find it…where is it?? and I did a rescan yesterday, but still there s no FBDh in the texplorer…now I have FBDa, FBDf, FBDg, FBDi and FBDj…man, I want this cloak for my femshep….oh yeah, the funny thing is I can find it with the HMM_ARM in the texplorer…is this the thing I need??

  30. Hi, enjoy your mods but having problems loading texture – figure out the 1st part – but having problems with texplorer, wont save changes ( replaced the diff, norm, and spec files (Go to File > Save Changes) and get error message (Could’t find entry – CusTextures0.tfc in PCConsoleTOC.bin when replaced the diff, norm, and spec files but file does change tho?? When I exit I get a message saying you didn’t save your changes. I would be real greatful in the help.

Anothe problem is trying to load EDI blue catsuit – saved this Edis Body Mod, it a pcc file but when I added to folder and load the game I get endles loading screen, any suggestion to fix this?

Thank for these mods – hope to enjoy ME3 better

  31. ok, I finally found it…you don’t need the FBDh folder..since the first mod replaces the old armor..but now I have the following problem..everytime I try to replace the diff, spec and norm it says: An error occured while replacing texture: System Format exception. The image doesn’t have any mipmaps bei AmaroK86.Format.Image.Mipmap.Handler.
now what do I need to do? I also downgraded my version of the me3 explorer to Version 1050 as someone suggested here…but to no avail…man…this is so frustrating…I also have enough space on my harddisc.

  32. Same error just popped up for me. It had worked correctly once before. Suddenly, no dice. And that particular file does exist. Google seems to be clueless as well.

  33. Ok so I’m having an issue in that I can’t replace a texture because it’s DXT5 and what I’m trying to replace it with is DXT1. I have no idea what that even means, and thus unable to even try and fix it

  34. Hi :) really awesome tutorial, and very helpful. i do have a quick question (im a bit of a n00b).. but on step # 6 it explains to “navigate to where you saved the mod you want to upload and Select the .upk file.” but when i do that the mod doesn’t have a “upk file”.. so do not all mods have upk files.. or do maybe im not downloading the right link..

    • Only mesh mods have different .upk files – if you’re only replacing textures, you don’t need to worry about it. You can also upload .psk files but that is always hit or miss when it comes to looking weird in-game :)

  35. Hi All: Updated, figure it all out and now uploading mods :). Feel kind of silly when saving the texture, didn’t click it right lol. Also still have problems with Edi’s Body Mod for femshep, still getting endless loading screen. Have a question, what problem do you need to save a tga file to dds?

  36. Hi again :D just wanted to ask if you could help me replace a couple of scenes with Kaidan and make him look like Thane? For example the romance scene :)

  37. This ME3 Explorer sucks, it’s full of errors, now, every time that I try to use the Texplorer it scan 2600 files and crashes…
